Cabrera is as good as gone. The Twins won't pay for him to be on the bench and he'll want to start somewhere else (plus, he's an old dog, planning on teaching him the new trick of second base isn't going to end well).

As far as Uggla, the reason the Marlins want to get rid of him is not skill, but cost. He's about to hit arbitration and get really expensive, which may be enough to keep the Twins away from him. If they do want him, younger players like Tosoni and Bromberg will be what the Marlins want, which will put the Twins at decision time: trade the future for the present or hope they can continue to retool on the fly while adding a few players at a time.

As much as the new park will increase payroll, I can't see them adding Hardy, Uggla, and an arm, unless they can convince Pavano to stay for less. I'd rather add a better pitcher than another infielder, but your milage may vary.

Now that we filled shortstop i would go to cabrea and see if would take a bench position which he probably wont or if he would move over to second which he probably wont. so when we have put in an effort to sign cabrea then i say we go to the marlins and offfer perkins, bonser and crain or liriano for uggla and a low prospect or bullpen piece. Then we can go into the winter meetings focusing on getting a top of the order pitcher
