Interleague Action
After a brutal seven game road series the Twins return to the friendly confines of the Metrodome to face National League and border rival, Milwaukee Brewers. Tonight’s game kicks off a big seven game homestand with three games against Milwaukee and four against powerhouse Boston.
If history repeats itself than this weekend’s series against the Brewers comes at a good time for the Twins. Over the past three years the Twins are 41-13 against the NL and specifically 12-6 against the Brewers. However, this a 1st place Milwaukee club with the second best record in the National League at 26-15.
The Twins are riding about as high as you possibly can after a 1-6 roadtrip. After losing six straight losses by a combined total of 12 runs, Minnesota salvaged any pride they had left by demolishing the White Sox 20-1. The game of baseball certainly works in mysterious ways, but too bad we couldn’t have won yesterday’s game 7-1 and spread those other 13 runs to go 7-0 on the roadtrip. Nonetheless, yesterday’s monstrous win helped the Twins at least return home with some confidence.
Kevin Slowey takes the mound tonight coming off one of his best starts of the season last week in New York. Although Slowey didn’t pick up a win he struck out eight batters over seven and 2/3 innings without walking a batter. Saturday night Twins’ fans will get their first glimpse of pitching prospect Anthony Swarzak. Swarzak was called up after Craig Breslow was picked up on waivers by the Oakland A’s. The twenty-three year old Swarzak posted a 2.25 ERA over seven starts this year in AAA Rochester.
It will certainly be a big series for the Twins this weekend in Minneapolis.
